Jakarta Provincial Government launched solar power plant (PLTS) operational at SMKN 54, Jalan Bendungan Jago, Serdang Urban Village, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (5/21).

Education Agency, Regional Head Bureau and SMKN 54 Headmaster also signed a hand over letter of solar power plant assistance from PT Paiton Energy to Jakarta Provincial Government.

Jakarta Education Agency Vice Head, Purwosusilo, said the development of PLTS in this school is a concrete manifestation of the commitment to support renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.

"This is a historic moment, marking a joint commitment to supporting renewable energy. And of course also continuing education," he said.

Purwo added that his side appreciates the application of PLTS in schools as an effort to mitigate climate change by minimizing the use of mining energy.

He admitted has communicated with PT Paiton Energy to apply similar solar panels to other schools in Jakarta. The plan is there will be 10 other schools that will apply PLTS on the roofs of their buildings.

"We hope that collaboration will be sustainable and open up greater opportunities in the world of education. Thanks to PT Paiton Energy and all parties who support it," he added.

PT Paiton Energy Head of External Relation, Bambang Jiwantoro, explained the 20 panels installed are technically capable of producing 10 kilowatts of electricity every day.

Utilization of PLTS, Bambang believes, will reduce the school's operational burden of paying monthly electricity bills. Apart from that, the use of PLTS will also have an impact on reducing carbon emissions equivalent to 0.68 tons per month or planting one tree.

"In the future, our energy development will move towards a renewable direction. Therefore, this facility is also an educational means for students," he explained.
